The MELIORA Virtual Coach operates as a context-sensitive platform for adapting content, offering recommendations, and delivering messages, all aimed at empowering participants to effectively modify their behaviour. Wondering how it functions? Please refer to the infographic below for more details.
Intervention Material Pool
Educational materials such as mini-courses, articles, guides, videos and timely feedback messages will form part of the intervention content. These materials will be thoughtfully designed to engage various target groups, including those typically harder to reach or disadvantaged.
Causal Recommendation Engine and Content Adaptation and Filtering Engine
To ensure the robustness, validity and accuracy of the personalised guidance regimes aimed at breast cancer reduction, the MELIORA causal recommendation engine will leverage causal models and explainable AI methods for modelling and estimating the true effect of each recommendation on behaviour change. An AI-driven causal recommendation system will be crafted, refined and validated to ensure that the feedback and messages offered are tailored to meet the distinct needs, constraints, and opportunities of each individual.
Capabilities: Enhancing Personalised Recommendations
Our goal is to equip each participant with tailored recommendations aimed at enhancing their abilities to adopt a lifestyle that reduces the risk of breast cancer. These recommendations are designed to increase awareness of specific behavioural changes and provide just-in-time options for healthier choices. For instance, the virtual coach will offer suggestions like opting to walk instead of driving or incorporating more fruits into grocery shopping lists. Through notifications, participants will receive guidance on overcoming individual and contextual barriers, fostering greater self-awareness crucial for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and reducing breast cancer risk.
Opportunities: Discovering Healthier Choices
The virtual coach will illuminate opportunities for healthier food options and increased physical activity, tailored to each participant’s unique circumstances such as geographical location, family dynamics, occupation, and social environment. Participants will be presented with alternative choices for nutritious foods, guidance on improving eating habits like meal timing, strategies for reducing alcohol consumption, and suggestions for boosting physical activity. These opportunities stem from both predefined options specific to each region and dynamically acquired insights through geographic information system (GIS) /map data and artificial intelligence algorithms.
Motivation: Empowering Personal Progress
Drawing from comprehensive situational analysis and data collection during the project’s preparatory phase, the Virtual Coach will pinpoint the most compelling motivators for each individual. This includes raising awareness about BC risks associated with certain behaviours, elucidating how behaviour changes can mitigate these risks, and delivering motivational messages tailored to each participant’s context. Content will be presented in participants’ native languages and conveyed in an easily digestible format, ensuring accessibility and comprehension based on proven presentation methods already existing in the dataset.
